[caption id="attachment_3565" align="alignright" width="548"] Old brick kiln.[/caption] We were fortunate to visit Fez and watch the potters at work making the ceramic wares. The ceramics are fired in old brick kilns, in the same fashion that they have been made for hundreds of years. Potters from Fez were trained by ceramic masters from Spain and Portugal in the 9th century. The pottery produced in Fez today is renowned for it's complex geometric and floral designs, which were influenced by both the Moorish and the Jewish cultures. There may be some imperfections in the ceramic glaze which are characteristic of a handmade Moroccan bowl. These gorgeous handpainted bowls will make wonderful gifts. They are perfect for use on the dining table or can even be used for displaying soaps in the bathroom. In conclusion, in an age where most goods we buy have been mass produced, it is nice to spend money on purchasing a unique and handcrafted ceramic piece.
