Antique Ceramic Tuareg Pitcher

This is a beautiful piece of Art. This gorgeous blue and white ceramic pitcher has been crafted by Tuareg artisans in Norh Africa, with a fertility design. It has been decorated with elaborately decorated bands of copper and brass and adorned with silver rosettes. The brass decoration has been hand carved with Tuareg tribal designs. Shields of brass have been embellished onto the copper strips and are also carved with Tuareg symbols which represent nature. The handles of the pitcher are ceramic, decorated with strips of engraved brass and embellished with shields of engraved silver. Elaborate beading highlights the metal strips. The neck of this wonderful vessel has been adorned with hand engraved brass panels and embellished with copper shields in an 'hour glass shape' which represents the female form. The Tuareg people were the craftspeople of North Africa, who produced the arms for warriors, tools for agriculture and striking jewellery such as this piece, for decoration in the home. This is an old ceramic piece. It was crafted in the 19th century and we were told it is between 150 and 190 years old. This beautiful Tuareg pitcher would look stunning in an entrance foyer.   Size: Circumference 65cm x H 35cm
