Ceramics  handcrafted in Fez

Potters from Fez, were trained by ceramic masters from Spain and Portugal in the 9th century.  From these Moorish artists they learned to create the elaborate designs of their ceramics, which combined their Moroccan Berber heritage with the Spanish/Portuguese influence.

The ceramics in our collection were selected from a family business, where the skills of pottery making are passed down from father to son. The ceramic designs also incorporate simple borders, geometric motifs and floral designs.

In fact, each piece is unique because of the firing technique used to create them. For once each piece is fired, there is no precise way to predict how the glaze will settle. Two ceramic pieces made with the same glaze could easily come out two different shades. Great dedication and skill by the craftsman is required for this art form.

In addition, most pieces in this range have also been signed by the craftsman.

Cafravanserai Trading Company’s first range of ceramics is featuring mainly black on a brilliant white background. The many different shapes of these stunning plates, bowls and vases make them incredibly versatile for interior decorating.
